Why Choose California Bay Builders & Remodeling?

You work directly with the owners from first design talk to final walkthrough — never handed off to a crew you've never met. Your project gets our full attention.

Licensed & Insured

CSLB #1130783. A fully licensed California general contractor — every job built to code, with your home and investment fully protected.

We Stand Behind Our Work

If something isn't right, we make it right — no runaround. We do the job properly the first time, and we're here after the final walkthrough, not gone the moment the check clears.

Transparency & Clear Communication

Clear line-item estimates, milestone-based payments, and straight answers from A to Z. You're never left guessing — you always know what's happening, what's next, and what it costs. No surprises on the invoice.

A Dedicated Project Manager

You get one dedicated point of contact who knows your project inside and out — from first sketch to final walkthrough. No call centers, no getting bounced around, no explaining your job to a stranger every time. One person, accountable to you.

Our Projects

At California Bay Builders & Remodeling, we’re proud to serve homeowners across San Jose, the Peninsula, and the greater Bay Area and every project on this page was built with the same love and passion we’d put into our own homes. From luxury kitchen and bathroom remodels to custom ADUs and full home renovations, we don’t just build spaces — we build trust, one detail at a time. Take a look at some of the work we’re proud of — and imagine what we could create together.

OUR REMODELING PROCESS

From the first conversation to the final walkthrough, you’ll always know exactly where your project stands. No surprises, no guesswork — just a clear path from idea to finished space. Here’s how we work:

Step 1: Free Consultation

We meet at your home, walk the space, and talk through your goals, budget, and timeline. Ask us anything — this is where we earn your trust before you spend a dollar.

Step 2: Design & Detailed Proposal

We turn your ideas into a real plan — layouts, materials, and finishes , then deliver a detailed, line-item proposal. Whether it's a kitchen remodel or a full ADU build, you'll know exactly what's included and what it costs before we break ground.

Step 3: Permits & Preparation

We handle the permits, city paperwork, and inspections — a major hurdle for ADU and addition projects in San Jose and the bay area. Materials get ordered, schedules lock in, and everything's ready before day one.

Step 4: Build & Final Walkthrough

Construction begins with a dedicated project manager, regular updates, and a clean job site. We finish with a detailed walkthrough — and it's not done until you're happy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about cost, permits, timelines, and what it’s actually like to build with us.

How much does an ADU cost in San Jose and the Bay Area?

Our custom ADU packages start at $165,000 for a 350 sq ft studio unit. A larger 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom ADU at 800 sq ft typically starts at $372,000 depending on finishes and site conditions. Because California Bay Builders & Remodeling handles design, permits, and construction under one roof, you’re not paying separate margins to an architect, a designer, and a general contractor. You’ll receive a detailed, line-item proposal before anything is signed.

Yes — it’s the law, and we won’t build without them. Every ADU in San Jose and across the Bay Area legally requires city permits, plan approval, and inspections. Building without them is illegal, and California Bay Builders & Remodeling does it by the book, every time.

Some contractors will offer to skip the permit process. Don’t let them. Unpermitted work becomes your liability, not theirs — it can block a future sale, void your homeowner’s insurance, and force expensive tear-outs or fines when the city finds it. And they do find it.

City inspections aren’t red tape. They’re a third party verifying the work is done correctly, which protects you and holds us to a standard. We manage the entire process — plans, submissions, approvals, and inspections — from start to finish. You end up with a legal, inspected, code-compliant ADU that adds real, documented value to your property. Everyone sleeps at night.

A bathroom remodel typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. A kitchen remodel runs 6 to 8 weeks. A full ADU build generally takes 4 to 5 months, depending on size and which city you’re building in — permitting timelines differ across the Bay Area. We give you a realistic schedule up front, not an optimistic one designed to win the job.

Yes. California Bay Builders & Remodeling offers a free, no-obligation consultation for every project — whether it’s an ADU, a kitchen or bathroom remodel, or a full home renovation. We meet you at your home anywhere in San Jose or the greater Bay Area, walk the space, talk through your goals and budget, and answer every question honestly. You’ll know exactly what’s possible and what it realistically costs before you invest a dollar.

Yes. We’re a fully licensed California contractor (CSLB #1130783), bonded and insured. We’re happy to provide our license and insurance documentation before you sign anything  and frankly, you should ask that of any contractor you consider.

It depends on the project. Kitchen and bathroom remodels can usually be phased so you stay in the home, though you should expect noise, dust, and some disruption. A detached ADU is the easiest case — construction happens outside your living space, so daily life continues as normal.

An attached ADU or a room addition is different. Because the work ties directly into your existing structure, expect real disruption — and depending on scope, staying in the home may not be practical. Whole-home renovations almost always mean moving out.

We’ll tell you honestly what to expect before demolition begins, so you can plan your living situation in advance instead of finding out mid-project.

California Bay Builders & Remodeling is a San Jose-based design-build company serving homeowners across the greater Bay Area.

South Bay: San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Cupertino, Mountain View, Los Gatos, Campbell, Saratoga, Milpitas, and Morgan Hill — including San Jose neighborhoods like Willow Glen, Almaden Valley, Evergreen, Rose Garden, and Cambrian Park.

Peninsula: Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Mateo, Burlingame, Foster City, Belmont, and San Carlos.

East Bay & Beyond: Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, and Orinda.

We also serve San Francisco and surrounding communities. If you don’t see your city listed, reach out we likely cover it.

It’s the number one reason Bay Area homeowners build one.

In San Jose, a 1-bedroom ADU rents for roughly $2,500–$2,700 per month, and a 2-bedroom for around $3,300–$3,400 per month. That’s real income against a property you already own — often enough to cover a significant chunk of your financing, sometimes more.

Beyond monthly rent, a permitted ADU adds documented, legal square footage to your property — square footage that appraises and resells as real value. That’s a large part of why ADUs have become California Bay Builders & Remodeling’s most requested project across San Jose and the Bay Area.

Rents vary by neighborhood, unit size, and finish quality, and every property is different. We’ll walk through the real numbers with you during your free consultation.

We’re a true design-build firm — design, permits, and construction handled under one roof by one team, with one point of accountability. Your designer and your builder are the same team, working together from day one. Add over a decade of Bay Area experience and a boutique, owner-led approach, and you get a project managed properly from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.
