Full-home renovations and whole-house transformations across the Bay Area — design, build, under one roof.
Whole-Home Transformations
Your home is your single largest asset — and in the Bay Area, one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the country. A whole-home remodel lets you transform how you live while protecting and growing that investment. At California Bay Builders & Remodeling, we redesign and rebuild entire homes across the Bay Area — opening up dated layouts, modernizing every room, and delivering a cohesive, high-end home built to last.
Many Bay Area homes were built decades ago, with closed-off floor plans, tired finishes, and systems that no longer match how families live today. A full renovation solves all of it at once — on the lot you already own, in the neighborhood you already love.
Walls come down, light pours in, and disconnected rooms become one flowing, livable home.
A fully updated home commands top dollar in the Bay Area's competitive market.
New electrical, plumbing, insulation, and energy-efficient upgrades throughout.
Every room rebuilt to fit how you actually live, cook, work, and gather.
Design, plans, permits, and construction handled by one dedicated team.

The Smart Decision
One of the biggest decisions Bay Area homeowners face is whether to remodel their existing home or tear it down and build new. For most, remodeling is the smarter investment — and the numbers back it up.
A major whole-home remodel in the Bay Area typically runs a fraction of the cost of a full teardown-and-rebuild — often around two-thirds the price — while still delivering the modern, open, high-end home you want. You keep your lot, your location, your mature landscaping, and the neighborhood that makes a Bay Area property valuable in the first place.
Under California's Proposition 13, a full teardown and rebuild is typically treated as new construction — which can trigger a complete property tax reassessment at today's market value. For a home held for many years, that can mean a dramatically higher tax bill, every year going forward.
A remodel works differently: generally, only the value of the new work is added to your assessment, while the rest of your home keeps its protected base-year value. We recommend confirming the specifics with the Santa Clara County Assessor.
New construction starts from the ground up — deep excavation, new foundations, and full site work before a single wall goes up. In some cases, that groundwork triggers Cal/OSHA excavation requirements and specialized crews. With California short over 400,000 construction workers, those early phases can push new-build timelines well past a year.
A remodel keeps you moving. Because we work within your home's existing foundation and structure, your project skips much of that early groundwork — so we start faster and finish faster.

One Team, Start to Finish
A whole-home renovation has more moving parts than any other project — which is exactly why it should be handled by one team, not a patchwork of separate companies. As a true design-build contractor, California Bay Builders & Remodeling takes your project from first sketch to final walkthrough under one roof, with one point of accountability.
A full renovation often includes a new kitchen and beautifully updated bathrooms — and many homeowners add a custom ADU to their property at the same time. Because we build it all, every space is designed to work together as one cohesive home.
How It Works
From the first call to the final walkthrough, here's exactly how California Bay Builders & Remodeling brings your Bay Area home to life — one team, one project manager, one point of accountability.
We walk your home together, listen to how you want to live, and share honest ideas for what's possible. No cost, no obligation.
Our in-house designer develops your full layout and 3D renderings, then we produce architectural plans and structural engineering — tailored to your home and how your family lives.
We handle the entire permit process for you — submissions, city approvals, and coordination — so every phase is approved and inspected to code.
Our trusted Bay Area showroom partners guide you through every finish — flooring, cabinetry, countertops, tile, and fixtures — and deliver it all to your project, on schedule.
We protect your home, set up the site properly, then begin demolition and construction — with city inspections signing off at every stage so the work is verified and to code.
We complete a detailed punch list, bring in a professional clean crew, and walk your finished home with you — every detail checked, every space move-in ready.
Transparent Pricing
Every whole-home renovation is different, so we don't publish a fixed price — a home that needs a full transformation is priced very differently from one that needs targeted updates. Instead, we build you a detailed, line-item proposal after we see your home. Here's what shapes your investment:
Total square footage and how many rooms are being renovated.
Removing walls, opening layouts, adding square footage, or reworking the roofline.
Updating electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and insulation throughout the home.
From clean and modern to fully high-end custom throughout.
Older homes may need updates behind the walls before the visible work begins.
You'll receive a clear, itemized proposal before anything is signed — so you know exactly where every dollar goes, with no surprises along the way.
Built on Experience
Many of the Bay Area's most charming homes were built decades ago — and part of doing a whole-home remodel right is knowing how to work with an older home's systems and structure. Our experience means we plan for these realities from the start, so they're handled cleanly instead of becoming mid-project surprises.
In California, when a renovation reaches a significant share of a home's value or involves major structural work, current building code can require bringing parts of the home up to today's seismic standards — including foundation anchoring and a continuous structural load path. This is exactly where a design-build team earns its value: we plan for these requirements up front, engineer for them, and build them in — so your project moves smoothly through approvals. It's all part of building a home that's safe, modern, and built to last.
Planning Ahead
A whole-home renovation is a bigger undertaking than a single room. Most full-home projects run from several months to just under a year, depending on the size of your home and the scope of work. During your consultation, we'll give you a realistic schedule for your specific project — not an optimistic one designed to win the job.
Because a full renovation often touches every room, many homeowners choose to live elsewhere during the most intensive phases, while others phase the work room by room. We'll walk you through the options and build a plan around what works best for your family — with clear communication and a dedicated project manager keeping you informed every step of the way.

Los Gatos
A home that had square footage but no real space. We added roughly 700 square feet and redrew the entire interior — walls came down, the kitchen became the open-concept centerpiece, and vaulted ceilings with a new loft opened the home vertically.

Making It Possible
Most homeowners don't have hundreds of thousands sitting in the bank — and you don't need to in order to transform your home in the Bay Area.
The challenge with traditional financing is the equity wall: standard loans only lend against what your home is worth today, not what it'll be worth after your renovation is complete. That's why California Bay Builders & Remodeling partners with RenoFi.
A RenoFi HELOC lends against your home's after-renovation value — what your property will be worth once the work is done — so you can access far more than a traditional loan allows.
And it works across all our design-build services — from a whole-home remodel to a new kitchen, bath, or ADU.

Good to Know
It varies widely, because a whole-home remodel can mean anything from refreshing every room to a full structural transformation. Rather than a one-size-fits-all number, California Bay Builders & Remodeling builds you a detailed, line-item proposal after seeing your home — factoring in size, scope, structural changes, systems, and finish level. You'll know exactly what you're investing in before anything is signed.
For most Bay Area homeowners, yes. A whole-home remodel typically costs well below a comparable teardown-and-rebuild, keeps your existing lot and location, and often preserves your Proposition 13 property tax basis — while a full rebuild can trigger a complete tax reassessment at today's market value. Remodeling also avoids much of the excavation, foundation work, and extended timelines that come with ground-up construction.
In the Bay Area, moving comes with enormous costs — agent commissions, transfer taxes, a higher property tax basis on the new home, and today's higher interest rates. A whole-home remodel lets you get the home you want in the location you already love, often for far less than the true cost of trading up. You keep your neighborhood, your commute, and your Prop 13 basis.
Generally, a remodel is reassessed only on the value of the new work, while the rest of your home keeps its protected base-year value — unlike a teardown-and-rebuild, which is typically treated as new construction and can trigger a full reassessment. Because every project is different, we recommend confirming the specifics with the Santa Clara County Assessor or your county's assessor for your exact situation.
Most whole-home projects run from several months to just under a year, depending on the size of your home, the amount of structural work, and the finishes you choose. During your consultation, we'll give you a realistic, project-specific schedule — and a dedicated project manager keeps you informed at every stage.
Every whole-home remodel follows a clear sequence: consultation and vision, then design and engineering, then permits, then finish selection, then site prep and construction — with city inspections at each phase — and finally a detailed punch list, professional clean, and walkthrough. Handling it all under one roof means each stage flows into the next without gaps or handoffs.
Done By the Book
A whole-home remodel done right isn't just about looks — it has to meet California's building, energy, and safety codes. We handle all of it for you, so your project passes inspection the first time.
Permits & inspections. Whole-home renovations involve electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and often structural work — all of which must be permitted and inspected. California Bay Builders & Remodeling manages the entire permit process for you, from submission through final sign-off.
California energy code (Title 24). California requires renovated homes to meet the state's Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24), covering high-efficiency lighting, insulation, HVAC, and more. These standards are set by the California Energy Commission and updated every three years — the current 2025 standards took effect January 1, 2026. We design every renovation to meet them from the start.
Bottom line: you don't need to learn California's building codes — that's our job. We handle permits, inspections, energy compliance, and structural requirements as part of every whole-home remodel, so the entire process is done right and stress-free.
